Refocus is a grassroots organisation that runs participatory photography courses for minority and marginalized groups. Refocus puts the camera into the hands of the learners, giving them the power to depict the realities of their lives as individuals and as groups. As the directors of the organization, we aim to influence Refocus participants by raising their awareness of the plight of others and helping them to foster dialogue both within their communities as well as globally.

Yarmouk Camp

Al Neirab  Camp

Homs Camp

HOMS REFUGEE CAMP (Homs, Syria)

Homs camp lies within the town of Homs, 160 kilometres north of Damascus. The camp was established in 1949 on an area of 150,000 square metres, adjacent to Al-Baath University. Most of the refugees originally fled from the villages surrounding Haifa and Acre in northern Palestine. As of June 2002, there were 13,825 registered refugees.
Today, the majority of the refugees are wage labourers, local civil servants or street vendors.
Poor environmental health is a major concern as it affects the quality of life and poses health risks for the refugees. The sewage system needs to be expanded to cope with the ever-increasing population of the camp. The schools are old and dilapidated, and some have major structural defects.
